Hello, everyone!

How are you? I hope you are having a great start in 2017! I know you all have set some goals for the new year as the most of us like the new starts and the promising beginnings. And I also know that requires time and effort to go wherever you are planning to go and to achieve any of your goals. But, as we try our best to complete our resolutions,  sometimes we need to slow down, we need to relax and to enjoy the little things we love doing in our life. So, today I am sharing with you things I currently love doing, this first week of the new year.

My Spotify playlist: My top Songs 2016, a collection of all the songs I loved most this last year. It includes some relatively recent releases like ”Lost on you” by LP, or older ones like ”Born to die” by Lana Del Rey and many more oldies but classics, like my all time favorites songs by Il Divo, Andrea Bocelli and Melody Gardot.

Actually one movie: The light between the oceans. A lighthouse keeper and his wife living off the coast of Western Australia raise a baby they rescue from a drifting rowing boat. Having read the book recently, I was certain that the movie couldn’t be as good as the book was, which is very common in book adaptations to movies. Now I can fairly say I wasn’t disappointed. The actor’s performances as well as some secondary roles were amazing. Adding to that the wonderful music/soundtrack and the unique photography made this movie one to stay in my mind for long.

As in Greece we are mid winter at the moment with temperatures around 0 degrees this month, beverages like tea, hot chocolate and coffee are the best to keep us warm. This week I tried hot chocolate with orange flavor and it blew my mind. But, since one of my 2017 resolutions is to eat healthy I tried to avoid things like extra cream on top and tried to limit it to two cups a week. You can have it to the fullest if you prefer. Enjoy!

Blog Posts

The Roundup: Top Posts and a Thank you from Thirteen Thoughts. Paula is one of my favorites bloggers and I love every single post of her.

The Curated Closet  from A Beautiful Mess As I wrote in my last post, I really want to be more organized in 2017. That means I have to organize my wardrobe as well (with a little help of this book). Great book review!

5 Free Printable Calendars for 2017 from Little Things With Jassy. A wonderful collection of printable and free calendars for 2017. Jasmin is a new online friend, a great blogger and a soon mom to be.

Sometimes I can hardly find time to read as much as I want to, other times I can read 2-3 books at the same time. This week I started reading a book by a favorite author, a book I bought sometime in 2016: A strangeness in my mind by Orhan Pamuk. Having relatively recently lived in Istanbul for two years, I always like to read novels that take place in this wonderful city in modern or older days.
At the same time i am reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo.  I read a little every once in a while getting ideas on how to manage and complete the hard task of decluttering my home.

Something new

All things Danish: I have never been to Denmark. But I would love to visit Copenhagen this year and as Denmark in not on my Travel Bucket list it’s a totally new love. Have you ever heard about the Little book of Hygge? The Danish way to live well? Well, I have recently read this book and I am more than ready to discover all by my self whether Denmark is the happiest country in the world, as often said, or not.

Well, that’s all the things I loved doing this  week. What about you? What have you loved this week? What are some of your favorite books, drinks or anything else?  Let us know in the comment section below.

As always, thank you for visiting and have a great day!

Hello Helene, I just love hot chocolate too, but with light vanilla flavor. However, I’ve learned that a cup has almost 200 calories and consequently my daily hot chocolate ration will be reduced drastically (I used to drink 2-3 cups a day).

So you’ve lived for 2 years in Istanbul? Wow, that sounds so adventurously, I’d love to read some of your posts about your life there.

    • January 9, 2017 / 11:42 pm

Thank you for nice comment Perla. Yes, i lived for two years in Istanbul and thanks God, it was not so adventurously. By that i mean i had a great time and it was really a positive experience but i am glad i left before all these crazy terrorist attacks. I might write a post about these two years of my life soon.

I’m glad to hear you had a positive experience there, that means you’ll like to write about that time. Istanbul is such a great city after all (as I could see on pictures). I’ve never been there, but I met few people that were from Istanbul and they were so polite, well-mannered. I was impressed.

Thank you for nice comment Nora. As i wrote in my post i will try my best to read as much as i can this year. Tip: I have set an everyday limit, to read at least 25 pages every night before i go to bed.

I love Born to die, but I am also crazy for one less old, West Coast. Last movies I watched in 2016 were The curious case of Benjamin Button and Allied. I recommend both! The light between the oceans is one of the movies on my 2017 list!

    • January 9, 2017 / 11:54 pm

I haven’t seen Allied yet, i will keep it in my mind though. The light between the oceans is really fantastic, you must see it. Thank you for stopping by dear!

    • January 9, 2017 / 11:56 pm

I will read it again and again until i complete this declutter thing! 🙂 Thank you for stopping by Sarah!

What a lovely list – sounds like you’ve had a wonderful week filled with lovely things. It sounds a lot more serene than mine – hectic seems to be my middle name. I need to take a step back and try to do more things to recharge my batteries rather than spend all my energy.

Dear Katja, thank you for your lovely comment. Yes, you need to slow down a little. The truth is that i didn’t have so much free time, but i tried to do at least one loving thing at a time. That way my day was more relaxed. xo xo

I saw a film yesterday, ‘5 to 7’ I would love to read your thoughts, I really enjoyed this movie and Anestis too! Hope to see you again soon my dear Helen! Wonderful post!! Please recommend more 😀

I love this post! I actually saw Lana Del Rey in concert last summer, one of my favorite artists! 0 degree…wow that’s freezing! We just had our first snowfall here (Fredericksburg, VA) and only got to a low of 9 degree. I use to work in a coffee shop and we made a drink called a Generra which is mocha (hot cocoa) + orange peel + espresso…you would love it! Love this post.

    • January 15, 2017 / 11:08 am

Hi Brittany! I am so glad you liked this post so much. Wow, Lana Del Ray, this is so cool! She gave a concert a few years ago in Greece but it was far away from my place.
Last week the temperature was lees than zero, reached -7 one day. It was the most cold day so far.
Generra sounds tasty, i will try to make it by my self, i think i would like cocoa + espresso.
Thank you for stopping by Brittany, have a great week ahead!

Copenhagen is for sure on my travel wishlist. I don’t read much books so it’s hard to recommend you one. I can recommend visiting stockholm though 🙂

    • January 15, 2017 / 11:12 am

Stockholm is already on my bucket list! I think i am getting to like more and more these Scandinavian countries! Thank you for stopping by Sabine!

  17. January 12, 2017 / 5:44 pm

Dear Helene, I kind of share your love for Denmark. I’ve never been there but I would love to go!

    • January 15, 2017 / 11:13 am

Well, hope we make our dreams come true soon, very soon!

  18. January 12, 2017 / 10:24 pm

Hi Helene, it seems like many of us take the opportunity of a new year as a way to start getting out closet in order.
It’s also something I am on board with. although I do it in small steps, I don’t want any regrets 😉

    • January 15, 2017 / 11:18 am

I know what you mean, for me is a little bit tough to throw away or even donate some of my favorite clothes which might not work for my style or my age anymore. But i guess it’s a process we need to follow if we want to have space for new loves in our closet! 🙂

  19. January 12, 2017 / 10:31 pm

Stay warm! I know y’all are used to the cold in Greece. My friends who live on Lesvos posted pics of the snow storm that blanketed Skala. It was soooo weird to see that much snow at the harbor.

    • January 15, 2017 / 11:20 am

Thank you Sabra! Yes, it was so cold the last days n Greece. There were snow everywhere, even in the seaside. Thank you for stopping by!

  20. January 13, 2017 / 7:59 pm

What a great list! I think I have been heavily involved with all those things this year already! Im going to go and get a playlist organised now.
