MAKING A HOTEL ROOM HOMELIER

MAKING A HOTEL ROOM HOMELIER

Hello, everyone!

There are many reasons we might sometimes need to spend an extended period staying in a hotel. You might need a base while you move to a new house or complete some home improvements. You might be away from home on business and staying in a hotel without your family, or you could be traveling to visit family for a long time. Hotels are fantastic options in these situations. They are safe, secure, give you some privacy and include plenty of on-site facilities which can make your stay easier.

But, when you are away from home for a long time, you can easily begin to feel homesick. Hotels are great. But, even luxurious options like the Courtyard Santo Domingo are still hotels. They look and feel like hotels, and it can be hard to feel at home. However, this doesn’t have to be the case. There are plenty of ways to make a hotel room feel homelier. Here’s a look at some of the best.

Change the scent

Smell plays a huge part in making a room feel more comfortable. At home, you’ll be able to smell your washing powder and air fresheners, as well as smells of cooking and food. In a hotel, there’s very little fragrance. To make it feel more like home take some of your favorite air fresheners or scented candles.

Take home comforts

Most hotel rooms come complete with a kettle and some basic hot drink options, but after a long day sometimes all you want is your favorite hot drink from home. There’s nothing to stop you buying them in or even taking a jar with you. Sitting on your bed, with a drink that makes you feel at home can make a massive difference.

Other things that you could take to make you feel more at home are pillows and blankets, your favorite comfortable loungewear and some photos from home.

Unpack

The biggest mistake you can make is living out of your suitcase. You’ll never feel at home if you don’t unpack. Even if you are only staying a few days, it’s worth unpacking your bags to make your stay much more comfortable.

Streaming

Online streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime give you a brilliant option when you are traveling. Most modern hotel TVs will have a HDMI or USB port that you can plug your laptop into. Stream the shows that you’ve been watching at home or arrange to watch the same thing as your family back home so that you feel like you are doing something together.

Get comfortable

Make sure you pack your slippers, pajamas and some loungewear so that you can chill out when you get back to your room. This is an easy way to settle down and feel at home. Then, stock up with some nibbles, pamper products and extra drinks so that you can enjoy your evenings just like you would do at home.

Keep it tidy

It’s very easy for a hotel room to become messy as there’s usually not too much storage space. Keep it as tidy as you can.

These are great tips!! Unpacking definitely makes a difference in how you feel, I usually do it as soon as I arrive to the hotel and tidy all my clothes and accessories.

I usually bring a mini scented candle if we are staying somewhere for longer, and we always unpack and put away everything nicely so feel right at home.

Lovely tips, Helene! I’ve never though of getting scented candles there but that’s actually a great tip. I usually like keeping it clean and unpacking some of my stuff, especially if staying for more than 1-2 nights.

These are wonderful tips! Although, when I’m in a hotel I like the fact that I am not home so I hardly even unpack my bags when being on a holiday haha.

Hotels can have a bit of a out of home feeling especially as everything seems like its in a showroom. Settling in can definitely increase comfort levels!
