Hello, everyone!

Most of us that work from home know what a privilege it is. From avoiding the commute, being able to roll out of bed and start working, to spending more time with family, there are very few downsides.

However, working from home does mean the lines between a bedroom and home office often become blurred, making it hard to feel comfortable in either. Having the proper office decor is an important reminder the mode you should be in when you’re working. It’s more than just aesthetics. The place where you work should be comfortable for you. If you are experiencing any health issues, take them into consideration while choosing office furniture. For example, there are office chair for lower back pain.

In this post I’ll share a few of my favorite tips for leveling up your home office so it’s more classy, open, and conducive to work without being soulless.ideas-classy-home-office

Populate It With House Plants

There are a million and one ways to spruce up your office. However, adoring your desk, cabinets, and window sills with small potted plants allows more oxygen flow and a more charming look in your space. Some low maintenance, bright, and lively office plants that can shape up your office includes:

a. Aloe Vera → Aloe vera needs indirect sunlight and watering approximately once a week because it thrives in dry soil. It can come in larger varieties, however the Vera strain is the smallest and can fit in a small dish.

b. Snake PlantA snake plant can tolerate neglect and time away from the office, and yet thrives best with proper care of indirect lighting and watering once or twice a week. It can get rather big, though, so it does best in a corner instead of a desk.

c. Chinese Evergreen → The Chinese evergreen can live up to ten years, so there’s no reason why it cannot live in your office! Most notably, the plant sports large lance-shaped leaves that vary from silver-gray to shades of green. It does best with low lighting and more frequent watering.

Get a Leather Executive Office Chair

Not all office chairs are created equal. When it comes to exuding elegance and comfort at the same time, go for a leather executive chair. Fake it til you make it so they say. A new leatherback chair is exactly the thing you need to make that shift into a working machine. If you find that your office is starting to lack or look dull, a good executive chair will transform your space into a high class corner office.

Hang Some Awesome Art Pieces

However you come about your favorite pieces of art — be it sculpture, oils on canvas, or photography — hanging up awesome artwork can help to boost your mood during hard days, inspire you to try something new or daring (motivational posters are great for this!), or simply give your office a newer feel. Pieces can even directly reflect the type of work you yourself would like to produce, a current project, or some emotion that you’re trying to feel at the office. Get creative!

Declutter Your Workspace

Sometimes all it takes to class up your office is to work with what you’ve originally been given. If you are someone who tends to be a bit messy, unorganized, or inefficient, try taking an afternoon to organize your workspace. Put papers in labeled folders, actually use that cabinet that you’ve been using as a plant stand, update your calendar, and set an office voicemail. You will be amazed at how much nicer your office feels when you can see your entire desk again!

If you’re not the undeniably messy type, then try to find new ways to organize your space to change up the vibe of it. You can very easily purchase new binders, folders, or pens; try moving the furniture around to give the room a new feel (if you can; most cubicles or open floor planned offices may not allow this); and changing your desktop background. A little goes a long way!

Adorn the Desk With Family Photos and Memorabilia

Are you either a family man or find yourself working very long hours when you would rather be at home with your kids and your spouse? If so, then adoring your office with home photos, homemade crafts, and/or personal gifts from loved ones are great ways to give your office a more charming feel. You can even go as far as to have an entire timeline of your children laid out over your desk; it does wonders to break the ice with new clients, employees, or coworkers. And make sure to show off your child’s hard work in school: your office cabinet could be the next refrigerator for showing off your child’s good grades!

I really need to update my office space and even just my home in general. I think I need to start it all off with a massive declutter though.

For me, the most important aspect is decluttering – I can’t focus if the environment is messy. Clean simple lines and a lot of light – and that executive leather chair – is my dream home office.

These are some great tips! I especially like the declutter one, because I find that after awhile you start to normalize the clutter. I love your office and hope to transform my own desk area into something like yours!
