It’s been a while since I got the Total Temptation collection by Maybelline New York. The collection consists of three products, the mascara, the brow definer and the Eyeshadow & Highlight palette. I have been trying them lately, so I thought it was time to share my thoughts with you.
The first product from this collection is the mascara which upon the arrival on the drugstores beauty and makeup lovers started talking about it. I believe everyone who has tried a Maybelline mascara before would have loved one of them, be it the Lash Sensational or the Volum’ Express or any other. So it’s easy to start comparing the total temptation with one of them. But as I would like to make conclusion without being affected by comparisons, I will not compare them at all.
The packaging is so pretty and chic, in pink color with bold pink-rose gold letters on a black background. The mascara smells beautiful as it is enriched with coconut and although I don’t like the coconut smell itself, I didn’t find this one annoying. But, really, If I wasn’t told, I wouldn’t have guessed what the smell is all about. The coconut softens and nourishes the lashes and this is kinda true as my lashes after two coats remain soft and I could say natural. I usually don’t read any directions regarding mascara’s application but when I saw their suggestion ”Do not let mascara dry in between coats” I followed it and yes, the application was much easier with this tip. My lashes between the two coats were soft and wet and the finish was desirable. Plus, the mascara is buildable.
The wand of the mascara now is a medium one size, not too big, not too small, but the best part of it is the bristles which are natural and grab all the lashes, even the smallest ones, making the application easy and comfortable. My lashes look really long and get some volume also, especially after the second coat, without feeling them clumpy or my eyes heavy. As for the color, it’s a bold black color which gives definition to the eyes and has a great longevity.
My brows at the moment are pretty thin and I usually use a brow pomade along with a clear brow gel. When it comes to brow pencils, I love trying new ones. I am constantly seeking for the best one, a soft pencil yet capable to define easily the shape of my brows and of course has a brush. The total temptation brow definer has all these I am looking for and after a few usages, I am very pleased with the result every time I use it. The twist up pencil has an angled shape, perfect to create the shape of my brows and it’s pretty soft. (I would prefer it a little thinner though). You can have either a subtle or an intense finish depending on your desire and the press you put while applying it.
As for the spoolie brush, which has a teardrop shape, it’s very soft, ideal to use on brows before the application to give the shape you want or after, to blend the product. My shade is the blonde one which matches perfectly with my fair skin and my light colored brows. Something I don’t like is the amount of the product which seems to be just too little.
The last product from the Total Temptation collection is the palette, which, unfortunately, it’s not what I had expected for. The palette contains 8 eyeshadows, most of them are matte, and two highlighter shades. The color range is very beautiful and varies from beige to pink and from orange to brown. There is also a dark one shade which can be used as a liner and two of the shades are shimmery. So far, so good! The shades are not pigmented at all, they are very powdery and so hard to apply. I tried with my fingertips and with a wet brush but again nothing, they aren’t blendable so it’s so difficult to work with them and to have a color payoff.
There is a lot of fallout, especially the shimmery shades leave sparkles all over my face and this is so disappointing. Things are getting a little better if I use a wet with setting spray brush, but in this case also, the shades don’t stay for long on my eyes, they almost tend to disappear. I got better results from the highlighter; the lighter, champagne shade is creamy and blends easily while lasts for hours, and the color is beautiful and delicate for my skin. The other highlighter shade, a pink-purple, is not so creamy as the first one, but applies easily and I love how the color looks on my face.
Overall, the palette definitely isn’t one of my favorites as I can work mostly the highlighters while the eyeshadows have totally disappointed me. The mascara and the eyebrow definer, on the contrary, are two products I really liked and I was satisfied with their results. If I had to rate them I would have to give 4.5/5 for the mascara, 4/5 for the eyebrow definer and 3/5 for the palette.
