Six of the Most Fashionable Places in New Zealand

Six of the Most Fashionable Places in New Zealand

Hello, everyone!

Thanks to The Lord of the Rings, and an endless stream of backpackers, there’s a bit of a misconception that everyone dresses casually in New Zealand. Hobbits and hikers alike tend to dress in earth-toned shorts or breeches with matching outerwear (or capes) – but the truth is that real Kiwis are rather a fashionable bunch. And even if things are fairly casual out and about on a day-to-day basis, there are plenty of places where more of a focus on fashion is appreciated.

Here are six of the most stylish places to head out to if you visit this quaint, beautiful country. six-of-the-most-fashionable-places-in-new-zealand

1. Sidart Restaurant

If you’re interested in fine dining, look no further than Sidart Restaurant in Auckland – one of New Zealand’s trendiest dining spots, and one of the finest restaurants in the world. The unique menu is expertly curated by innovative chef Sid Sahrawat, resulting in options like kumara roasted in gunpowder, truffle paneer, and beeswax ice cream. No matter what you order, though, expect it to be beautifully plated to match the restaurant’s sleek and monochromatic design. Altogether, expect an elegant, high-end atmosphere, and dress to match it. I would recommend putting on an elegant, satin dress with a high slit and a pair of gold heels.

2. Isaac Theatre Royal

For a night of culture, visit Canterbury’s Issac Theatre Royal. The stunning venue was first opened in 1863 and still has an air of Victorian sensibility. Acts that will soon grace the Issac Theatre Royal’s stage include Dita Von Teese, Randy Newman, and the touring company of Aladdin, which should give you some idea as to the variety of entertainment you can enjoy there these days. To dress for a night of theatre, dare to wear something on the dramatic side, like a crepe jumpsuit with a cape.

3. SkyCity Auckland Casino

In spite of the fact that New Zealand’s online casino websites have expanded significantly in recent years, SkyCity in Auckland is a very popular facility – for casinos, yes, but also for dining and entertainment. So whether you’re there for the casino or something else, it’s a great place for a fashionable night out. In fact, this world-class, resort-style venue does adhere to a fairly strict dress code. So be sure to dress the part! One fun look for a night of games and a nice dinner overlooking Auckland would be an off-shoulder leopard-print dress with black heels and some gold hoop earrings. You’ll look sharp, but also just the right amount of extra for a casino.

4. Level One Bar

This hip Christchurch venue acts as both a coffee shop and bar. This means you are free to order a cappuccino and a glass of wine at the same time if you want – though I would recommend one before the other. To blend in with the bar’s super-trendy patrons, opt for a pair of black, high-rise, straight-fit jeans, a black crop top, and a leather jacket.

5. Dunedin Public Art Gallery

For those interested in art, a stop by the Dunedin Public Art Gallery is a must. The museum is home to pieces from Claude Lorraine, Monet, Pissarro, and Gainsborough, altogether making for one of the more impressive collections you’ll find in this entire part of the world. It’s okay to be a bit more casual at a gallery like this, and you want to be comfortable walking around. But you can still opt for a sort of cozy-chic look, with a knit sweater, dark skinny jeans, and white trainers.

6. Gin and Raspberry

Gin and Raspberry is a boutique bar in the heart of Wanaka that overlooks a gorgeous lake. It’s about as pretty a bar as you’ll find, and you can enjoy an old fashioned or drink of your choice as you sit on the balcony taking in the view. Given that the bar is also fairly casual, you can consider pairing something like a mustard-colored jumpsuit with a denim jacket and black, leather sandals.
